Communications intended for the HDC should be submitted through the Effingham Town Office. Applications for HDC Certificate of Approval should be sent to the Effingham Town Office c/o Historic District Commission or bought before the Commission at a regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Historic District Maps

Town of Effingham tax maps which reflect the boundaries of the Lord’s Hill and Center Effingham Historic Districts are under development and will be added to this site once completed.

Information on the California Paints Historic Colors of America line is provided because a companion style guide prepared by staff at Historic New England is available which may assist property owners with appropriate paint color selections. No endorsement or guarantee of the company or its products by the Town of Effingham is intended or implied. There may be other paint companies which offer similar products which a property owner may wish to consider.

  • How do I apply for a Certificate of Approval?
  • How does someone become a member of the Historic District Commission (HDC)?
    • Members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen, often upon the recommendation of the Commission. For anyone interested, we suggest you attend a meeting of the HDC to advise us of your interest and learn what we do. Then the Commission can recommend you to the Board of Selectmen for a seat or alternate position if one is available.
  • When and where does the Commission meet?
    • The HDC meets the second Monday of each month at 7pm in the meeting room of the municipal offices.
