Open Position Part-Time Chief of Police

PART-TIME CHIEF OF POLICE

Town of Effingham, New Hampshire

The Town of Effingham, New Hampshire, with a population of approximately 1,830, is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for Part-Time Chief of Police. This is an opportunity for an experienced law enforcement professional to lead a small, community-focused department and serve a rural municipality.

The Effingham Police Department is currently rebuilding its staffing structure and works collaboratively with Town officials and neighboring law enforcement agencies to provide professional, lawful, and community-oriented police services.

The Chief of Police is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the Police Department. This is a hands-on, working Chief position requiring the ability and willingness to perform patrol and other active law enforcement duties as needed.

The successful candidate will be a team-oriented leader who values collaboration, transparency, accountability, and professional conduct, and who can build a strong and respected department that earns the confidence of residents, Town officials, and surrounding communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership, supervision, and direction for department personnel.
Perform patrol and other active law enforcement duties as needed.
Enforce state laws and Town ordinances.
Develop and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and training programs.
Assist with preparation and administration of the department budget.
Oversee recruitment, training, evaluation, and discipline of personnel.
Coordinate mutual aid and regional law enforcement cooperation.
Serve as a professional advisor to Town officials on public safety matters.
Maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, employees, residents, and other agencies.
Represent the Police Department professionally to the public and other organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Current New Hampshire Police Officer certification, or the ability to obtain certification through the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council.
Ability to meet and maintain applicable certification, fitness, and continuing education requirements.
Law enforcement supervisory or command experience preferred.
Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a background investigation.
Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, leadership ability, and commitment to ethical policing.
Ability and willingness to perform active patrol and law enforcement duties.

Desired Qualifications

Experience leading or assisting in the leadership of a small or mid-sized police department.
Knowledge of community policing and problem-solving strategies.
Experience with municipal budgeting, policy development, and personnel administration.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience working collaboratively with municipal officials and other law enforcement agencies.

Compensation
